Why a Standard Living Will May Fall Short if You Develop Dementia

This week, the Wall Street Journal notes that dementia directives are gaining popularity to detail medical and end-of-life care wishes for individuals with dementia.

The article notes that some of these directives include a "section on nutritional support during the stages of dementia." I collect more a dozen of these dementia directives here.

  1. If you lose the capacity to understand your own directives, a judge could easily nullify them and place you in a non-secular nursing home, claiming that the person you are now no longer wishes to abide by them, since you're no longer aware of them.

If you lose the capacity to understand your directives, a judge could nullify them and place you in a non-secular nursing home, arguing that your present self — no longer aware of the directives — doesn't wish to follow them.
