MAID Approaches 2% of Deaths in Three U.S. States

Medical aid in dying is authorized in 14 U.S. states. But usage rates vary tremendously.

Rates remain low in most states, and especially low in New Jersey and Washington, DC.

On the other hand, rates have been rising significantly in Colorado, Oregon, and Vermont. In those three states, MAID now comprises between 1% and 2% of all deaths. One big factor in Oregon and Vermont is a huge number of out-of-state patients.
