Psilocybin Program Approved - New Mexico Follows Colorado & Oregon

New Mexico has become the third state to legalize supervised medical psilocybin. S.B 219 establishes a psilocybin program initially aimed at treating end-of-life anxiety (as well as depression, anxiety, and substance use disorders).

All three states with psilocybin programs (Colorado, New Mexico, Oregon) also have authorized medical aid in dying. Because existential suffering (as opposed to physical suffering) is a primary driver for MAID, terminally ill patients should be advised to consider trying psilocybin before proceeding with MAID.
