Many jurisdictions claim to have the most restrictive MAID law in the world. We have heard this from several Australian states. Now, the sponsor of legislation in the UK similarly claims that her "bill will contain the strictest protections and safeguards of any legislation anywhere in the world."
Not even close. Qualifying for MAID in Italy is ridiculous. It is very difficult, very slow, and entails many administrative reviews. And the patient qualifies only if they are already dependent upon life-sustaining treatment.
Notably, only 9 people have obtained MAID in Italy, despite a population larger than any other jurisdiction in the world with MAID other than Germany.
