EMT Penalized for Failing to Perform CPR

In January 2024, Iowa EMT Heather Fraise responded to a 911 call for assistance. But upon arrival, she failed to begin CPR on a patient that did not qualify for withholding CPR. She failed to treat a patient in cardiac arrest with a shockable rhythm and possible short down time. And she failed to contact online medical direction to terminate resuscitation. The patient died.

The Iowa Department of Health and Human Services imposed light discipline. It issued a citation and warning and imposed an educational hours penalty. The Lee County EMS terminated her employment.
