Prison Sentence for Demanding Unnecessary Treatment

I have written about the problem of "bad" surrogates, surrogates who make decisions inconsistent with the patient's wishes or best interests. Unfortunately, clinicians often fail to challenge "bad" surrogates in even clear violation situations.

Perhaps the type of surrogate whom clinicians most often challenge is the parent who demands too little or too much therapy for a child. One such parent, Kaylene Bowen-Wright, is now going to prison for making her son go through unnecessary medical procedures throughout the first years of his life (Washington Post).
