Over at the Good Death Society Blog, Lamar Hankins has prepared a nice summary of my recent talk on "VSED Dementia Advance Directives" for the Hemlock Society of San Diego.
While I identified twelve specific action items to maximize the chances you advance directive will be understood and honored, I should have identified thirteen. In addition to specifying WHAT you want and WHEN you want it, you should also specify WHERE you want it.
Many facilities have conscience-based objections or risk-averse-based objections. Therefore, investigate what facilities and/or clinicians are comfortable with advance VSED.
