Simon's Law - Back in Force for 2019

The Missouri Legislature will once again consider "Simon's Law" legislation (H.B. 138) in its next session. This bill is the same as H.B. 1361 (2018).

The bill prohibits a health care facility, nursing home, physician, nurse, or medical staff from instituting a DNR order, or similar physician's order for any child who is not emancipated or under juvenile or family court jurisdiction without oral or written permission of at least one parent or legal guardian.

Simon's Law was already enacted in Kansas. Last session, several other states considered similar bills. So, we should expect other state legislatures to introduce and debate Simon's Laws in 2019.
