A recent article in Bioethics supports my analysis of the permissibility of VSED ("VSED Should Not Be a Pathway to MAID (Though Both Are Ethically Permissible"). But it attacks my arguments defending VSED as a bridge to MAID.
Despite the controversial nature of this path, I continue to hear from clinicians in Hawaii, New Mexico, Colorado, Oregon, and elsewhere that they have qualified patients for MAID based on their terminal illness status from VSED.
Plus, the legitimacy of this path is confirmed by efforts, like that in the UK Parliament, to close this path. There would be no need to separately and explicitly exclude VSED bridge to MAID if that path were not already available.
