Medical Aid in Dying in UK - Impact Assessment

The UK Department of Health & Social Care has prepared a 160-page Impact Assessment appraising the Terminally Ill Adults (End of Life) Bill published in the House of Commons this summer.

The IA estimates 4,559 to 6,257 assisted deaths by year 10. This is in line with some U.S. states but substantially below others with more successful implementation (like Oregon, Colorado, New Mexico).

But the more remarkable findings relate to the time required. The IA finds 6 health and social care professionals would be required for 32 hours to complete the 10 core steps of the process. And these clinicians would need one or two-day in-person trainings.
