Later this week, Illinois becomes the 14th U.S. jurisdiction where medical aid in dying is available. The law was enacted in late 2025, but becomes effective on Septmber 12, 2026.
Meanwhile, seven federal lawsuits continue to challenge MAID laws in California, Colorado, Delaware, Illinois, and New York.
