Ryan argues that we have a duty to treat patients with dignity, which she interprets as "recognition respect." The courts in the Gard, Evans, and Haastrup cases were correct to authorize withholding or withdrawal of the disputed treatment because administering such treatment would have failed to treat them with dignity.
