More Advance Directives on Driver Licenses

Arizona has enacted H.B. 2772 which directs the Department of Transportation to provide on each driver license and on each nonoperating identification license a space where a licensee may indicate that the licensee has an:

  • advanced health care directive
  • health care power of attorney
  • prehospital medical care directive
  • living will
  • mental health care power of attorney
Many other states already do this. It's important. While only a minority of American adults has completed one of these documents, even those are often unavailable when the individual is admitted to a healthcare facility. While this notation does not tell clinicians where or how to obtain the AD, it at least tells them that it exists.
