Rates of medical aid in dying vary dramatically across the country. New Mexico has the highest rate, higher even than Oregon which had more than a 20-year head start. But remarkable are the abnormally low rates in New Jersey and Washington, DC.
Rates of MAID usage there is less than 10% of usage in New Mexico. The law may explain some of this disparity. Both jurisdictions still have traditional rules like a longer waiting period. But much of the disparity is surely due to implementation.
