Dementia VSED Advance Directives - Authorization in State Legislatures

I have been defending and drafting dementia VSED advance directives. In March 2026, the New Jersey Assembly introduced a bill to authorize these directives. Now, an identical bill has been filed in the Senate.  

The Dementia Dignity and Advance Care Planning Act would permit "any competent adult diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease or another neurodegenerative dementia shall be permitted to execute a Dementia-Specific Advance Directive" in which they can "specify the individual’s wishes regarding ... feeding preferences."
