John Mandrola makes a bold statement in this Medscape piece.
"CPR is a medical intervention. It was designed to be used in specific situations, such as VF during AMI or surgery. To use it in a dying patient with uncorrectable medical conditions is akin to operating on the wrong limb or giving the wrong drug."
If it's that wrong, then it's not a value laden decision. We need not solicit the patient's goals regarding DNR orders or POLSTs. These patients should just be DNR. End of story.
