A growing number of states have been enacting Simon's Laws, including Alabama, Arkansas, Arizona, Georgia, Idaho, Iowa Kansas, Missouri, South Dakota. These laws typically prohibit medical providers from adding a DNR to a minor’s medical chart without parental consent.
Indiana is again considering an especially strong version. in H.B. 1255. The bill provides "a health care provider may not issue a do not resuscitate order or otherwise withhold or withdraw treatment that would allow the natural death of a minor unless the health care provider has received the consent of each parent ... orally and in writing."
Furthermore, to prevent what happened in Arkansas last year, the Indiana bill further provides "a court does not have jurisdiction to withdraw life sustaining procedures from a minor over the objection of a parent or legal guardian."
