I am delighted to discuss organ donation from unrepresented patients at today's Uniform Law Commission meeting. A handout of my slides is available here.
This is one of a series of meetings of the ULC Study Committee on Post-Mortem Retrieval of Gametes, Safeguards for the Acquisition and Use of Anatomical Material by Non-Transplant Anatomical Organizations, and Protections for Unrepresented Donors.
As I have blogged, ongoing lawsuits allege that hospitals did not do enough to identify decedents and seek family authorization before turning to administrative authorization of anatomical gifts.
