For months, I have had a rather adversarial exchange with Chelsea Roff who has been critical of the UK MAID bill and of MAID more broadly. So, it was a pleasure to discover - face-to-face over coffee - the rather wide scope of our shared concerns with patient safety.
Among other things, Chelsea has dug into the annual DOH MAID reports from many U.S. states and has pushed the DOHs to clarify data that is missing or inadequately presented. I admire this empirical investigation and analysis.
I am not sure there is a compliance problem or patient safety problem with, for example, patients qualifying for MAID based on VSED or anorexia. But I concede that inadequate transparency makes it difficult to confirm one way or the other.
