Paul Tammert gave people a device he had made for money, which allowed them to die in peace. For this, Tammert was charged with providing healthcare services without a license. The County and District Courts found Tammert guilty of operating without a license.
But the Criminal Chamber of the Supreme Court acquitted Tammert, explaining that assisting a person who is about to die is not a health service. The Court also emphasized that every person capable of understanding has the right to end their life at their own will. Criminal liability for aiding and abetting this act can only be considered if the person is incapable of doing so or does not fully understand the meaning of their actions.
