Michigan Woman Faked Advance Directive to Pull Life Support
Continuing an alarming nationwide trend of similar cases, a Michigan woman faked an advance directive to direct withholding / withdrawing of a patient's life support in order to obtain their property. Linda Polk was arraigned for first-degree, premeditated murder, vulnerable adult abuse, and fraud in Macomb County (Detroit Free Press).
States may need to reconsider the ongoing removal of security safeguards in advance directives. These amendments are designed to make them easier to complete. Yes, advance directives must be easy enough to complete, that more individuals complete them. The overall rate is only 33% of adults. But if advance directives are too easy to complete, then they are too easy to forge and fake.,
Makes one wonder about the frequency, at which this already occurs.
