The Pulaski County, Arkansas court just issued an order permitting Arkansas Children's Hospital to write a DNR order for 1-year-old D.J.C. over his parent's objections. Notably, the court ordered this despite a Simon's Law statute (growingly common in the USA) that prohibits pediatric DNR orders without parental consent.
Due to his prematurity, D.J.C. was born with severely underdeveloped lungs. That caused many problems including many code events. D.J.C. now has a global brain injury from a prolonged lack of oxygen. Treating clinicians determined that "continued resuscitative efforts will cause D.J.C. physical injury, unnecessary pain, and suffering."
An earlier separate court injunction constrained when and how D.J.C.'s parents can visit. Both parents had been violent toward staff at Arkansas Children's Hospital.
