Utah Man Angry - Why Did I get CPR When I Had a DNR Order?

For years, clinicians and policymakers have been encouraging individuals to do advance care planning and complete advance directives. And they have been encouraging the seriously ill to supplement their ADs with POLSTs. So, it not surprising that these individuals are angry when clinicians fail to honor those ADs and POLSTs.

It is a breached promise. "Complete this document to ensure you do not get treatment you do not want." It is a medical error to administer value-concordant treatment. While the Utah patient does not plan to sue, many other patients have been suing. And winning.
