The Vatican-owned Bambino Gesu Hospital takes 500 children from abroad each year, offering treatments not available in their home countries. The London Times reports that the hospital sums up its approach to the toughest, cases: “We cannot say no."
Cases with British children stretch back to 2017 when Bambino Gesu offered a place to Charlie Gard. A year later, the hospital again offered to assist Alfie Evans. It now hosts Tafida Raqeeb, a brain-damaged British girl whose life support both her clinicians and the courts agreed should be discontinued.
