This morning, CMS published a 700-page proposed rule to revise the Medicare hospital inpatient prospective payment systems. It includes a quality measure aimed at optimizing care for older patients.
The hospital must have protocols for identifying healthcare proxies, advance care planning, and documenting goals in the medical record.
