Hospice Fined for Treating Patients Not Terminally Ill

The U.S. Department of Justice has settled the latest in a growing line of fraud cases against hospices that bill Medicare for hospice services provided to patients who were ineligible for the hospice benefit because they were not terminally ill. In this case, the company also failed to discharge patients when they no longer required hospice care.

Elara Caring operates 200 locations in 17 states nationwide, employing 26,000 caregivers and serving 60,000 patients daily.
