Zoraya ter Beek turned 29 this month. But she had long been suffering from trauma and borderline personality disorder. And because she had been struggling with these mental health issues for over a decade and no treatment had helped her, Zoraya decided that she wanted to die.
Consequently, on May 22, 2024, Zoraya died with the help of the Euthanasia Expertise Center. While EPC initially rejected Zoraya's application, they reconsidered after she persisted.
She was experiencing "unbearable suffering with no prospect of improvement." And the EPC clinicians met the statutory due care criteria.
