Supreme Court May Allow Naming Clinicians in Medical Futility Court Cases

The Supreme Court of the United Kingdom heard arguments today regarding whether families can name clinicians in end-of-life disputes.

Like many other children, Isaiah Haastrup and Zainab Abbasi were both the subject of court judgments regarding their medical treatment when their parents and clinicians could not agree. That was in 2018-2019.

Their parents now challenge indefinite court orders barring the naming of clinicians. The Court of Appeal already ruled that the rights of the parents to "tell their story" outweighed the privacy rights of the clinicians and staff.

The UKSC hearing continues tomorrow. The UKSC streams video of its hearings here.
