California S.B. 1196 proposes amending the California End of Life Option Act to make it more accessible to seriously ill individuals who have determined MAID is their best option to avoid intolerable suffering.
It's historic that this bill was even introduced. Now, the legislature is going to seriously consider it. The bill is scheduled for a hearing before the Senate Health Committee on April 22, 2024. Notably, this committee is chaired by Senator Susan Talamantes Eggman who was key to prior legislation on MAID.
