Reduction in Potentially Inappropriate Interventions in Trauma Patients following a Palliative Care Consultation

A group of South Florida researchers have published a report showing that palliative care consultation reduced potentially inappropriate interventions in severely injured trauma patients by factor of two. 

But while palliative care is expanding as part of treatment, it remains underutilized in trauma settings. The authors recommend more timely administration of palliative care consultation. And to streamline goals of care, it should supplement or precede a DNR discussion.
