A compelling story from Wisconsin Watch, the Capital Times, and the Fuller Project graphically illustrates disturbing and widespread patient safety risks posed by Catholic hospitals.
The story shows how Catholic hospitals, which comprise one-third of all hospitals in Wisconsin, violate medical standards of care and harm their patients. The story focuses on reproductive procedures like abortion, contraception, and tubal ligation. But the same patient safety risks befall patients seeking end-of-life procedures.
For geographic and other reasons, many patients do not have a real choice. Moreover, even those patients that do have a choice, are unaware which facilities are Catholic and which procedures are off-limits.
