For All Mankind is a new American science fiction web television series produced for Apple TV+. The series dramatizes an alternate history depicting "what would have happened if the global space race had never ended" after the Soviet Union succeeds in the first manned Moon landing.
In one scene (below) the astronaut's son was in a terrible bicycle accident. The physician explains that the boy "is brain dead," but also (clumsily) states that he is "being kept alive."
This contradiction is forgivable, since the scene is set in 1974, when brain death was still new diagnosis. But this same language is still used 45 years later, and unnecessarily creates confusion and mistrust.
