Jeffrey Mahan Singh recently presented "Understanding Brain Death" to the World Federation of Neuroscience Nurses.
After presenting the clinical exam and illustrating its robustness, Singh describes three challenges: (1) variability, (2) religion, and (3) policy/law. While brain death is widely accepted, it is undergoing "growing pains" and variability "undermines credibility."
I was encouraged to learn that Ontario has an on-call service that helps clinician with questions about conducting brain death exams.
