California Court of Appeal Rejects Constitutional Challenge to End of Life Options Act

On Tuesday, the California Court of Appeal rejected a constitutional challenge to the California End of Options Act.

As expected, given its earlier tentative opinion, the court reversed the Riverside Superior Court. Medical aid in dying in California will continue until at least January 1, 2026 when the current statute sunsets. Hopefully, the renewal legislation will be an opportunity to redesign some of the safeguards that impose significant barriers yet add little to patient safety.
