A survey a 150 medical interns found a poor understanding of brain death. Only 17% reported a high level of knowledge of the legal definition. Apart from clinical diagnostic errors, the interns expressed surprising general attitudes toward brain death.

I might be misdiagnosed as brain dead and lose the chance of treatment.

22% agreed or strongly agreed:

I might be misdiagnosed as brain dead and my organs and/or tissues might be harvested while I am still alive.

15% agreed or strongly agreed:

My treatment may be terminated prematurely if declared to donate organs after brain death.

  1. To correct YOUR misunderstanding and misinformation, the official legal position of UMM AL QUIRA university , Makkah, is that brain death is NOT human death as clearly described in the Quran (the words of GOD revealed to all Mankind through the Prophet Mohammed Peace Be Upon Him).
