The Human Life Alliance "proclaims and defends a culture of life and chastity through education, social and political awareness." One if its new "fact sheets" addresses brain death.
HLA claims that "brain death" is not "true death." I am not sure there is any consensus standard in law, medicine, or ethics that defines "true death." Still, it is worth noting that HLA accurately summarizes a range of scientific facts to support its claim.
Neurology societies need clear and compelling responses to all these points. This is crucial for preserving public confidence and trust in the brain death diagnosis.

Has there ever been a case in which a brain dead pregnant woman carried a fetus to term much less kept on somatic support to produce breast milk? I can only find cases where doctors waited until viability, usually between 24-28 weeks, before performing a C-section and no cases in which the patient was kept on support afterward to harvest breast milk.
ReplyDeleteBabies have been successfully delivered. These were presumably by cesarean. I think usually before full term. I never heard of continued support after delivery.
