Baby Granados' Life Support Removed

The Houston Chronicle reported yesterday that doctors at Children's Memorial Hermann Southwest Hospital removed newborn David Granados from life support late Wednesday. He had been delivered by his mother in an ED bathroom and placed in a hospital trash can.

The child's 29-year-old mother, Genny Granados, told authorities she went to the hospital's emergency room for a stomach ache. While she was waiting to be seen, she went into a nearby restroom and delivered the baby and said it was not breathing and she thought it was dead, police said. She left it in a trash can and returned to the emergency room waiting area. Granados remains jailed on a charge of injury to a child. Her bail is set at $50,000.

Oddly, the paper reports that, with removal of the LSMT, the baby "has died." Yet, also reports that he "has been brain dead from the time he was found and revived on Feb. 9." The mother had opposed removing LSMT, but the Houston Chronicle reports that "no other details about the decision [to remove LSMT] were available."

  1. She is guilty of homicide. Many children require minor resuscitation immediately after birth. She was in a hospital, and could have called for the appropriate help in a timely manner. She didn't. Therefore she is guilty of criminally negligent homicide.
