"Beyond Medical Rescue"

Wow, that's terribly offensive at first impact..

Yet I can't put into words precisely why..

Part is because it sounds so final but even more so because it presents an impression of, "Eh. I just give up." on the part of any medical professional who might choose to use it..

Beyond Hope comes then equally to Mind..

Good point. There is a lot of semantic and psychological research that such negative implications should be avoided.

For example, "DNR - do not resuscitate" implies that we can but are not going to resuscitate. Better is "DNAR - do not attempt resuscitation" because it does not imply the attempt would be successful.

Perhaps best of all is "AND - allow natural death" because it focuses on what providers will do not on what they will NOT do.
